Multiple LS1 coil driver/sequencer for the 082

Postby Tinker » Wed Feb 24, 2010 11:15 am

Project I am into is a multiple LS1 style coil driver/sequencer for the 082 . I have been looking for GM info but have only been able to find this MegaSquirt doc http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/GM_7pinHEI.htm . I am assuming that the Delco uses the same method for timing described on that page . Timing Advance Calculations for GM HEI Modules

My problems are I have looked at a few XDF's and have found no reference/parameter to dwell time / dwell map etc ? is this hard coded ?

I have looked and the EST - dynamic correction factor /deadband ref ( these figures don't seem to be what I am after ) also seem to be the same in V8 or V6 bin ? (i.e one with hei/module the other wasted spark coil pack) ?

I am now using the $12P Code . (Great work to all concerned ! ) :punk:

Any help would be appreciated .

I have built my own dfi module using a 4017 and 2 4011 ics and using a vt dissy to sequence no 1.Have taken nomal coil - from module as input. I think the dwell is controlled by the module :punk:

you can use a stock dfi module to fire all 6 or all 8 depending on setup will still be wasted spark but can run 6/8 seperate coils instead of the 3/4 twin terminal coils

I was planning on using a PIC micro for the controller , Are you using LS1 coils? Is your setup working now ?

That's something to think about . Would like to have a go at my own controller first .

Using a pic microcontroler sounds good ,you got me thinking now how you would do it .
I havnt used ls1 coils just std electonic , and use 8 mj10012 transistors -whats different about ls1 coils?

im guessing just that ls1's run 8 of them individually so they are perfect for what you want ?
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Heres a tread all about LS1/LS2 coils . They work the same just different dwell settings. So called (smart coils)

http://www.megamanual.com/seq/coils.htm

Also anyone else interested in doing something like this I found some good info on EST , Do a google on P4 turbo pdf .

I have been looking at making one of these for awhile actually, have had a simple one working but am now looking at making one that does a little more. Will be using a dsPIC30F2010, has some nice features that should work well for this job.

If anyone wants to be involved and start a DH'ing project for this express your interest here :)
