VT-VX Clusters
Re: VT-VX Clusters
Hi, I'd be interested to find out how we read the vx clusters that use the NEC mcu instead of the eeprom that EVERY other Commodore uses!

Re: VT-VX Clusters
i'm just waiting on some stuff to arrive, it's a pitty the bins here don't have any additional info like engine type wheel size airbag numbers
mate what you need is the NEC DASHBOARD PROGRAMMER on ebay for about $64, what you can do is download the software and install it
from there run it> choose vehicle> from the drop down list choose> Chevy Malibu the click display info, what you'll see is Holden's VX cluster board !!! it seems holden used these from GM probably from being over produced, then went back to using separate EEPROM's again

Re: VT-VX Clusters
Yeah Sorry about the dump's I did here, I have no idea what cars they came out of????
Didn't even know what the mileage was on them till some smart buggers figured that out!
But looks good if you can do it without un-soldering eeprom!
Cheers VX L67 Getrag

Re: VT-VX Clusters
It looks like you still have to do some small soldering (from the docs):
Cheers for the info madmn!

Re: VT-VX Clusters
you do but you can skip pin 1 to 8 they are for the display editor only pins 9 to 14
i've worked out where to solder the other 6 wires without having to solder to the MCU i don't think pins have to to lifted and soldered on to

Cheers guys!
That's what I thought you used. Id be able to map some of the addresses by using my scantool to make changes and looking at what's changed in the bin.
Do they do a USB version of the NEC programmer?
Dave.

Re: VT-VX Clusters
^^^
they don't but you can get a USB to serial convertor for about $2
what's the MCU for the VY

Re: VT-VX Clusters
The VY uses an eeprom (24cxx)
As far as the USB to serial goes, you would want to make sure you got the right one, a lot don't work.

Re: VT-VX Clusters
just waiting for 1 more item to arrive and then i'll get this show on the road
in the meantime, my MODE switch arrived and if you want to hook it up do the following. On the switch connect pin 8 to ground and pin 5 to pin 13 on the cluster and it will operate as it would in car and also getting into engineering mode
looking at the socket the pins in an anti clockwise
1 8
2 7
3 6
4 5
