It can be done in the module fairly easily for run mode but the cranking dwell logic needs a fair bit of work to make this happen. You do lose all the nice ECU controlled dynamic dwell stuff for transients and various engine loads, but you prob dont have that now anyway with just the module controlling dwell.

Gave this a quick once over. Quite a bit that is missing. Dealing w a motor that uses 4 VE tables depending on whether secondary throttle bodies are open or closed. Same for SA tables.

Correct, there is no dwell control from the ECU. All built into ignition module. And if your module can , in fact, utilize the 9 slot reluctor signal to fire coils... The cam sensor takes its signal from a 1 slot reluctor as part of the exhaust cam. Used for timing injector sequence. I'd be interested in exploring this further.

I dont have a time frame, but things have been progressing albeit slowly.

One of the issues was being able to update the firmware easily over USB so have a small utility to do this now..

The next thing was having proper dwell control outside of the ECU to drive different coils without having to modify the ECU bin to adjust dwell. Some ECUs also dont use the EST pulses that define dwell and ign firing like on commodores so wanted to try and support them. In the initial versions of code there was a single dwell target which was only used to overlap dwell at higher RPMs, now it uses a table vs RPM and battery voltage. This is the dwell table for an LS2 coil...

And finally am trying to simplify the code. When initially getting it to work there were many things that made it much harder than first expected. A single coil setup was easy to manage but as soon as more than one gets thrown in the mix it becomes much more difficult with various modes of operation and keeping everything in sync. During cranking the dwell and spark delivery is independent of the ECU like a factory module, then once running the ECU takes over using EST pulses. At this point it needs to make sure everything stays in sync if more than one ign output is being used which is easier said than done.

Will keep this thread updated with progress

hey VL how are they coming along?

I have a mate who runs another engine management system on his vt l67 race car, the aftermarket system is interfaced into his standard ignition module and factory CAS and trigger wheel do you think that an ignition module like this might interface and deliver the benefits as on a mod'd delco ecm?
