Availability is the problem with their hardware. We have considered that option. I do not want to become a hardware reseller - I prefer to stick to the software. I do own an avt, and it does work with my unreleased original software on the bench. Somebody else needs to release cheap and capable hardware though. I will port to it. I really dont know why scantool.net havnt come to the party yet.

I hope they come to the party soon! They haven't asked me anything since we last spoke, they said it would be in the next fw update. But the last lime they released an update for stn1110 was on May 16, 2012, and before that January 11, 2011. So yeah it could take another year for all we know, but I really hope to hear something soon.

You can rewrite the entire PCM in non-block / low speed mode if you so desired. I wrote a program to work with old auto-tap cables..... The problem is ...... It's slow as crap.

You really want to run in 4x / block mode.

In regards to the AVT devices, plenty of experience with those ...

Before I lost interest in all of this stuff, I had a source in China that could make J1850 VPW devices for ~35 in quantity 250. Problem is, really need to marry that to something with GM-LAN / Global A / CAN to make it interesting these days..

Another company/person to lean on with be Tactrix. A couple years ago they said they were going to add 4x/block to their device, but I don't think it's happened yet. I think if they had more people contacting them, maybe.... (http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?page=s ... &Itemid=53)

Would you release your old program? We could probably rework it in newer languages, and even if it is slow, at least we'd have something.

Most the products out there have turned out to be vapourware or there has been other problems. Im no longer calling vpw flashing a priority.

I would love to play with that source too. Currently I'm using python scripts, stn1110, and a elm327. I need to get my hands on an AVT for now I was going back and forth between vpw flashing and trying to write over BDM. Once I get this BDM figured out I'll focus on vpw stuff.

Scantool has updated the firmware for the STN1110 on September 19, 2012 http://www.scantool.net/downloads/updates/stn1110/ maybe they added 4x etc.

Is there a respectable/confirmed source for replacement PSOP-44 flash chips (0411, or others)? I am very hesitant to de-solder the PSOP-44 flash without a fresh chip in hand. I've never successfully recovered the .bin from a PROM I desoldered out of 7747 or 7427, so I have limited expectation of re-using a factory 0411 flash chip after desoldering. China has sockets on ebay (not ZIF, though).


Antus, you mentioned you would like to release a freeware type flash tool eventually.. are you willing to disclose some of your infoz and/or source code yet? I'd even sign an NDA... *shrug*

I'd shell out the $$$ for an AVT if I knew I could hack together the requisite code to flash my 0411's. I refuse to shell out $$$ for highway robbery licensing... My L31 has leaky head gasket. I happen to have a 4.8, but hacking the 0411 is a sticking point.
